MS Campaigner calls on Prime Minister to “Protect children “

Glasgow, Scotland – Ryan McLaughlin

I today call on PM David Cameron to make women’s and children’s health a top priority, I renew my call on the UK Government to immediately raise the RDA of vitamin D in the UK and to immiedatly bring the UK advice in line with  US levels recently set by US Institute of Medicine (The IOM).

“The UK Government must act Now – and I urge David Cameron PM to support real change and to now work with the Scottish and Welsh Governments on this public health issue to remedy this situation and urge the Prime minster to immediately take swift action to protect us children – If we want to change the future health of this country we must start by protecting women’s and children’s health.

“The goal must be to build a better, healthier Britain for every child where every birth brings joy and hope for the future.

The UK Government must commit to investing in the future health of this country ‘our children’ by investing in programs over the next five years to support maternal and child health and nutrition advice programs across the UK.

I believe it is now critical to challenge the UK vitamin D levels immediately each and every day thats wasted by our politicians – children are born without the adequate protection needed for optimum health and a better future, the current UK levels advised by SACN are simply not high enough to protect children against diseases such as rickets and bone diseases never mind MS and a whole list of autoimmune diseases and the PM  simply can’t go on ignoring the current situation.

Politicians playing god with maternal and child health is simply not acceptable.

The recent US report by the IOM tripled the US recommended levels required to improve bone health and diseases like Rickets and there is no reasonable reason why the UK has not brought the UK levels in line with the new US levels, the government continues to stall on taking action and must act now if we are to improve children’s health in the UK . The government has the research and study data they need to act NOW and it must do so NOW .

I’m making this a priority of the Shine on Scotland campaign and I call on UK parents to support me in the fight to get UK levels of vitamin D raised immediatlety to protect our children’s health, to ignore the situation is to fail the rights of every child in Britain.
